This week, Formula 1 news highlighted the return of Flavio Briatore to Alpine, a team associated with Renault, as a consultant. This is the first official role that the Italian has held in the category since his forced departure following the ‘Crashgate’ scandal.
Felipe Massa, currently involved in a lawsuit against the FIA and F1, in which he seeks to annul the results of the 2008 Singapore GP due to Briatore’s plan to use Nelson Piquet to guarantee Fernando Alonso’s victory, commented briefly on the new signing.
“The news speaks for itself, there is no comment, the news speaks for itself,” Massa said in an exclusive interview with Motorsport.com, during the Stock Car stage at Velocitta. His economy of words and sarcastic tone were notable when asked about the discrepancy between his exclusion as F1 ambassador last year and the acceptance of Briatore, previously banned, by the category.
“Yeah, there’s a lot of weird stuff going on in this environment,” Massa observed.
Regarding the ongoing process regarding the 2008 title, Massa highlighted the efforts of his team of lawyers in seeking recognition of the title.
“It’s an intense moment, with a lot of work on the part of the entire team, so what I can say is that the team is very intense, focused and things are moving forward. I think that, at this moment, there’s not much to say about it, because it’s not a job that can be resolved overnight, it takes time. But the team is very focused, very motivated and we’re fighting.”
“Since we got into this, our team understands that what happened to me was not right, it was not fair, not only to me but to the sport,” concluded Massa.
