Sensational! Spain won their fourth European Championship title! On Sunday (14), the Spanish team defeated England 2-1 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, securing the Euro 2024 title.
This historic victory, with goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal, makes the Fury the first team to lift the tournament trophy for the fourth time (1964, 2008, 2012 and 2024). Germany, the host country of this edition, remains the second most successful European champion, with three titles.
On the other hand, England once again misses out on the much-desired continental title. After being runner-up in 2021 against Italy, the English team suffers another defeat in a final, marking the first time that a team has reached two consecutive finals without winning the title.
In the first half, goal opportunities were scarce for both sides, with Spain dominating possession. In the second half, the Spanish team opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, with Nico Williams scoring after an assist from Lamine Yamal.
The game was held in the balance when England equalised in the 28th minute, Cole Palmer finishing after a move by Saka and Bellingham. The dramatic finale came in injury time, Mikel Oyarzabal receiving Cucurella’s cross to score the winner and secure the European title for Spain.
Luis de la Fuente, who came through the youth ranks before taking over the senior team, joins the select group of José Villalonga, Luis Aragonés and Vicente Del Bosque as champion coaches with La Furia. Spain celebrates yet another epic achievement on the international football scene!
