The album “The Tortured Poets Department” reaches the top of the Billboard 200 chart for 12 weeks, surpassing the late singer’s record
Taylor Swift’s album “The Tortured Poets Department” has broken another success record, this time surpassing Whitney Houston’s album “Whitney.” With 12 consecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200 chart, the release has become the album by a female artist with the most consecutive opening weeks at No. 1. Whitney Houston’s 1987 album had previously stayed at the top for 11 weeks.
Personal record
Taylor Swift also broke a personal best this week, with “The Tortured Poets Department” becoming her album with the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, consecutive or otherwise. Until last week, the album was tied with “Fearless” and “1989,” which each spent 11 weeks at the top.
Significant sales
Released in April, “The Tortured Poets Department” sold 2.6 million copies in its debut week, earning Swift her eighth Billboard No. 1 album in four years, starting in 2020. The feat highlights Swift’s enormous popularity and continued impact on the music industry.
