Lady Gaga Wraps Up ‘Jazz & Piano’ Residency in Las Vegas

On July 6, singer Lady Gaga concluded her residency concert Jazz and piano at the Dolby Live Theater in Las Vegas. During the two-hour show, Lady Lady was in attendance with her father and boyfriend and praised her jazz mentor, Tony Bennett.

“I can’t believe this is the last time we’re doing this. No, it’s not, let’s do it again…”, she said. Throughout the concert season, which began June 19, Gaga teased a possible new residency, telling audiences: “…when we come back, we hope you come back. We’ll have a whole new show for you”. He confirmed that it would be “pop“.

It’s worth noting that Gaga’s first Las Vegas residency kicked off with two shows: the pop Enigma, which debuted on December 28, 2018, followed by Jazz & Piano on January 20, 2019. The double residencies with completely different types of music were groundbreaking. No artist had ever attempted anything like this in Las Vegas.

The performance was inspired by the Great American Songbook. It also featured jazz arrangements of Gaga’s most popular works, including Paparazzi, born this way AND Bad Romance, that accentuate the lyrics in a way that pop versions don’t. These tracks introduced her as a singer-songwriter to audiences who were perhaps more familiar with her from her work with Tony Bennett on their collaborative albums Cheek to Cheek (2014) and Love for Sale (2021).

Over the course of its 48 performances, Jazz & Piano experienced a rollercoaster of highs and lows, including a 21-month hiatus, Bennett’s passing, and an Oscar win for Best Song for “A Star Is Born.”

Opening night saw Gaga and Bennett on stage together.”You know this guy here: when everyone called me a bitch, he called me a lady. We love you, Tony“, Gaga said, introducing her duet partner, then 92. They sang lovingly The lady is a vagabond AND Cheek to cheek.

Just as he did on opening night in 2019, when he appeared in person, Bennett, who passed away in July last year at the age of 96, introduced the star through narration: “Ladies and gentlemen, the incredible Lady Gaga“. Even after his death, Bennett remained a ubiquitous part of the show.

Las Vegas, you’re in for a surprise… it’s Saturday and you’re going to feel like shit on Monday and tomorrow morning too”Gaga promised. “This is the last show of this Las Vegas residency, which means we’re going to make you sick tonight. You’re going to be sick, but the best is yet to come.

According to Billboard, Gaga was visibly emotional and gave her shout-out to every song, with her band matching the crowd’s energy with multiple standing ovations.

Her father, Joe Germanotta, was in the audience. After downing a glass of whiskey in one gulp, Gaga said: “My dad taught me how to do it – my dad is in the audience tonight, thanks dad – call me irresponsible…”

Before From I Love YouGaga called her boyfriend Michael Polansky. “I don’t know if you brought someone you love tonight, but I brought someone I love with me, Mr. Michael Polansky. I can’t bring you on stage, but you’re always in my heart, darling.”she said.
