Kelly Key, 41, has revealed her future plans via social media, including her intention to retire in Portugal. The singer, who currently resides in Angola with husband Mico Freitas and their three children, shared that the family is enjoying a vacation in Brazil, but she plans to move to Portugal after her retirement.
“We are in Brazil on vacation. We have been living in Angola for three years now and will probably retire in Portugal. For now, we keep these three countries as our homes and continue to move between them without pressure.”Kelly Key wrote in a recent post.
The artist, who began her successful career in the early 2000s, becoming one of the biggest stars of Brazilian pop music, also commented on her adaptation to life in Angola. The pension plan in Portugal reflects the couple’s desire to live a new peaceful and enriching phase of life.
Kelly Key’s Personal Life
In late 1999, Kelly Key met with Dalmo Belloti, a music manager and artistic director at Sony Music, who was looking for a young singer for a new project. The goal was to launch an artist who combined danceable pop and R&B music with striking choreography, similar to the work of Britney Spears. Dalmo invited Kelly to record a demo album, but she initially refused, as she had no intention of pursuing a singing career, she just wanted to be a presenter. However, encouraged by her parents, Kelly ended up accepting the invitation.
In 2000, she recorded a demo with music producer Cuca. The recording was sent to several record labels and caught the attention of Warner, who offered Kelly a five-album deal and other side projects, depending on the success of her career. In search of an authentic and impactful stage name, Kelly adopted the name Kelly Key, a suggestion from photographer Chico Audi during a photo shoot. She claimed that the name would symbolize the key to her success.
In 1997, Kelly Key met the Latin singer during a modeling session for a music video. They began dating shortly after and moved in together in 1999 when the singer was just 16 years old. Although they never formalized their marriage, the couple had a daughter, Suzanna Afonso Rocha Freitas, born on October 30, 2000 in Rio de Janeiro.
After Suzanna was born, Kelly moved back in with her parents for support, which contributed to the cooling of her relationship with Latino. In June 2002, they separated for good. In July 2002, Kelly traveled to Angola to perform in some shows, where she met footballer and businessman Jaime Pedro Freitas, known as Mico.
They began dating in November of that year and, in January 2003, they began living together. The union was made official on March 3, 2004, with a civil and religious ceremony at the church of Nossa Senhora da CandelÔria, in Rio de Janeiro, followed by a party at the Vila Riso party house, in São Conrado. The celebration, which included renting a plane to bring relatives from Lisbon and Luanda, cost more than 300 thousand reais. In July 2004, Kelly announced that she was pregnant for the second time and, on July 18, 2016, she revealed her third pregnancy.
