Paul McCartney pays tribute to ‘true rock and roll hero’ Taylor Hawkins

Former Beatle Paul McCartney reflected on being asked to play drums on a Foo Fighters song and induct the band into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Paul McCartney honored taylor hawkins as “a true rock and roll hero” and fondly recalled his collaborations with Foo Fighters in a tribute to the late drummer, which was shared last Wednesday, 30.

“The sudden death of taylor It was a shock to me and the people who knew and loved him,” he wrote. McCartney on Instagram. “Not only was he a great drummer, but his personality was big and bright and will be sorely missed by everyone who was lucky enough to live and work alongside him.

McCartney also recalled the time when the Foo Fighters sought him out to play on one of his tracks, and it turned out that they sought his help – of all instruments – on drums. The song was “Sunday Rain”, from disk concrete and goldfrom 2017, which McCartney pointed to be one of the songs of Hawkins.

“This request came from a group with two amazing drummers!” he exclaimed. McCartney. “It was an amazing session and cemented my relationship with taylor and the guys.”

Some years later, McCartney joined the Foo Fighters again when the band asked him to induct them into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. “I sang with them on ‘Get Back‘”, remembered McCartney. “taylor provided a powerful battery. I will never forget that night. All of this made the shock of learning that he had died that much more desperately sad. So thank you Taylor for sharing a few glorious minutes with me. You were a true rock and roll hero and you will always remain in my heart.”

Hawkins died suddenly last Friday, March 25th, while the Foo Fighters getting ready for a show at a festival in Colombia. The exact cause of death has yet to be announced, but Colombia’s attorney general said at least 10 substances were found in Hawkinsincluding antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and opioids.

McCartney is the latest in a long list of artists who have shared tributes to Hawkinsincluding Tom Morello, Elton John, Lars Ulrich, Miley Cyrus, slash and the colleague from McCartney US Beatles, Ringo Starr.
