The initiative of Chitãozinho and Xororó has brought together dozens of artists and the behind the scenes will be revealed this Sunday at Fantástico
Several Brazilian singers and musicians with different rhythms have come together to record a song in favor of Rio Grande do Sul, which was destroyed by the recent floods, in a solidarity action inspired by “We Are The World”. This is “Direito de Viver”, an initiative led by Chitãozinho and Xororó to raise funds and support those affected by the tragedy.
Inspiration and message
The inspiration for the initiative came from the “USA for Africa” project, which, in 1985, brought together big names in North American music to help the African continent. Xororó says that the idea was born after participating in the Salve o Sul festival, organized by Luísa Sonza: “We put on a show and gave 100% of the proceeds to Rio Grande do Sul, but I felt I could do even more. I watched the documentary ‘We Are The World’ and thought: ‘Here, it’s a song!’ Brazilians love to help.”
Solidarity in the form of music
The song “Direito de Viver” is now available on streaming platforms, and the behind-the-scenes of the recording will be shown this Sunday (28/7) in the program “Fantástico”. The aim of the release is to mobilize society and especially to raise donations for the victims of the floods that devastated the state in 2024. All proceeds from the music rights will go to the projects of the Instituto Gerando Falcões in favor of Rio Grande do Sul.
Artists involved
Among the artists who participated in the recording include Luísa Sonza herself, Alcione, Thiaguinho, Djavan, Vitor Kley, Família Lima, Andreas Kisser, Caetano Veloso, Roberto Carlos, Fabio Junior, Sandy, Fafá de Belém, Humberto Gessinger, Gilberto Gil, Ferrugem, Ivete Sangalo, Luan Santana, Junior, Lucas Silveira, Lulu Santos, Ludmilla, Péricles, Michel Teló, Nando Reis, Mumuzinho, Paulo Miklos, Ney Matogrosso, Paulo Ricardo, Renato Teixeira, Xuxa, Zeca Pagodinho, Alexandre Pires, Roupa Nova , Zé Ramalho and, of course, Chitãozinho and Xororó. The project also features model Gisele Bündchen and the works of Osgemeos.
History of Musical Solidarity
It was not the first time that Brazil called for “We Are the World”. Many other songs have been recorded in the same collective style over the years to address a tragic situation. One of the best known was “Chega de Mágoa”, released months after “We Are The World” and launched by the Nordeste Já initiative, created by Aquiles, from MPB4, in 1985.
