17-year-old arrested by police; other children and adults remain in critical condition after attack in Taylor Swift-themed classroom
Taylor Swift spoke out about an attack that occurred on Monday, the 29th, during a dance and yoga class inspired by his music. In total, three children — aged 6, 7 and 9 — died after being stabbed in Southport, England.
“The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continually and I am simply in shock,” he wrote. Swift in an Instagram story posted on Tuesday, 30. “The loss of life and innocence, and the horrible trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families and the first responders.”
“They were just little kids in a dance class,” she continued. “I don’t even know how to convey my condolences to these families.”
Investigation
The Chief Constable of Merseyside Police, Serena Kennedyreported at a press conference held on Monday, 29, that two children were dead, while eight others were injured and five were in critical condition. The death of the third child was confirmed by People on the morning of this Tuesday, 30th. Two adults also remain in critical condition.
According to police, a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. Authorities also seized a knife.
“At this early stage, inquiries are ongoing to establish the motive for this tragic incident and we would ask people not to speculate while the investigation is ongoing,” Merseyside Police said in a statement. “We can also confirm that the incident is not being treated as terrorism-related and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”
