Don McLean showed concern for Taylor Swift. In an interview with The Standard UK (via People) on Sunday, the 18th, he spoke about mental health and fame. “She is an example of what talent and a lot of hard work can achieve,” he said when asked about the artist.
“A lot of people think the music industry is like, ‘Oh, you’re so amazing, you should be a star.’ Taylor Swift was a star at 15, before becoming a monster star, the size of the galaxy”, he continued.
The “American Pie” singer praised Swift: “She’s always working and she does everything she does better than anyone else, whether it’s a video, a performance, a songwriting, albums or whatever — she does it all so much better than anyone else. It’s really interesting because all these other artists suddenly become cheesy.”
McLean stated that he hopes that Swift “Stay happy” and reflected on his own experience as a musician. “Show business and fame — as Elvis said, ‘fame and fortune’… I’m very lucky to have that,” he reflected. “I know how to do it. I have a lot of interests, and they support me. I don’t sit around thinking, ‘Man, why don’t I have this?’ or ‘Why don’t I have that?’ That’s the quickest way to become unhappy that I can think of,” he said.
