What happened at the Parc des Princes was a disgrace. Once again, Brazilian football was scandalously harmed, and the gold medal was stolen from the hands of the women’s team. Brazil lost to the United States 1-0, but this result is tainted by disastrous and, at the very least, suspicious refereeing.
The American goal was a complete steal! Mallory Swanson scored after a move that should have been immediately disallowed. Sophia Smith, in a clear offside position, ran towards the ball and participated indirectly and decisively in the play, confusing the Brazilian defense. Even so, the referee completely ignored the infraction. It is a scandal that something so obvious was ignored, and the VAR, which should correct these injustices, also remained silent. Where is the honesty in this game?
As if that weren’t enough, Brazil was also harmed by the failure to award a clear penalty on Adriana. The play was reviewed by VAR, and, unbelievably, the referee was not called to review the play, as if they didn’t want Brazil to have a fair chance to tie the game. It’s outrageous and raises serious questions about the integrity of the organization and the refereeing.
This match was a disgrace to football and a stain on the Olympic Games. How long will Brazilian football be the victim of shameful decisions like this? The fans and the players deserve answers and, above all, respect.
