Robert John Arthur Halfordbetter known simply as Rob Halfordbecame one of the greatest voices in rock when he joined the legendary British heavy metal band Judas Priestand has his own influences in music. Now, he was asked which five studio albums he would take to a desert island.
In an interview with AXS TV remembered by Blabbermouth, Halford revealed how he would choose Black Sabbath (1970), from Black Sabbath; Electric Ladyland (1968), from The Jimi Hendrix Experience; Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out! (1970), of the Rolling Stones; Reign in Blood (1986), from Slayer; and practically any work in the group’s discography Tool.
“I would need to start with the first album of Black Sabbathwhich I consider the motivator of all great things in heavy metal,” he said. “Next up, definitely a heavy metal album Jimi Hendrixbecause I’m a frustrated guitarist and I love what electric guitars can do… I’m going for Electric Ladyland.”
I also choose Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out!of the Rolling Stonesa live recording on Madison Square Garden which really shows the energy and power of that band. One of the greatest rock and roll bands that ever existed.
“Let’s face more recent times. Let’s be really fierce and aggressive with something of the Slayer and actually burn things down on the island,” he continued. Rob Halford. “That palm tree is going to fall. I would go with Reign in Blood for ferocity and relentless intensity. For number five, I’m going to jump into something a little more cerebral, if that’s the right word to call it. Tool.”
“For me, it’s always been a great adventure to listen to them, because they go to some remarkable places and it really is great music to put on your headphones, which I have here on this island to get lost in one of their records,” the singer concluded about Tool.
