The singer confirmed that her mother and sister died on the same day

Patricia Carey87, and Alison Carey63, mother and sister of Mariah Careyrespectively, passed away on the same day last weekend, the singer confirmed to People. The cause of death for each was not revealed, but Mariah declared (via People):

My heart is broken over the loss of my mother this past weekend. Unfortunately, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life the same day. I feel blessed to have been able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away. I appreciate everyone’s love, support, and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.

Relationship with mother

Mariah is the daughter of Alfredan Afro-Venezuelan aeronautical engineer, and Patriciaan opera singer.

Although he was born in New York, his parents’ interracial marriage was a source of conflict between Mariah and his mother’s white family.

In the memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey (2020), the artist spoke about the “painful and confusing” relationship with Patricia: “For my sanity and peace of mind, my therapist encouraged me to literally rename and reframe my family.”

“My mother became Pat for me, Morganmy ex-brother, and Alisonmy ex-sister… I had to stop hoping that one day they would miraculously turn into the mommy, big brother and big sister I fantasized about,” she added.

The singer said the story with her mother was “one of betrayal and beauty, love and abandonment, sacrifice and survival.”

“I have been emancipated several times, but there is a cloud of sadness that I suspect will always be hanging over me, not just because of my mother, but because of our complicated journey together,” she wrote.

Despite reports of conflict with Patricia, Mariah dedicated his book to her: “And for Patmy mother, who, despite everything, I truly believe did the best she could. I will love you the best I can, always.”

Patricia would have said to Mariahwhen her daughter was still a teenager, that she should “just hope that one day she becomes half the singer” that her mother was. “To this day, what she said haunts me and hurts me,” the artist recalled.

In 2015, for example, Alison She claimed that she was the victim of a home invasion that left damage to her vision and brain. Therefore, through a video, she asked for help with spinal surgery, physical therapy and treatments.

Last year, Alison appeared on TikTok without teeth. She claimed she didn’t have the money to replace them.
