‘I totally understand, because I would be [engraçado]if there was this bass guy playing lead guitar’
The guitarist Marty Friedmanfamous for having played in Megadethfrom 1990 to 2000, shared in an interview with the YouTube channel of Sam Ash Music who almost joined the Kiss. Friedman revealed that he was considered to audition for the band, but was ultimately rejected for not meeting the height requirements.
Friedman explained that when the Kisswas looking for a new guitarist, they contacted him for a possible audition.
They asked me if I was interested in auditioning for the Kissand I said yes, of course
However, before auditioning, he had to answer a few questions: whether he had a beard, whether his hair was long, whether he was thin and, finally, whether he was over 6 feet tall.
That last point was the problem. Friedman, who is 5’7″, didn’t meet the height standard.
When I told them my height, they just said, ‘I’m sorry, but it won’t work.’
Despite the disappointment, he said he understood the decision, considering the importance of the image for the band.
I’m like, ‘What? I’m 5’7 and a half. But I’m going to have surgery! I’m going to do something!’
They were like, ‘I’m sorry, it’s not going to work.’ I was so upset.
Marty Friedman, who recently released his 14th solo album, Dramaalso announced a tour that will begin in January 2025, in Las Vegas.
