Steve Harris reveals Iron Maiden are taking a break and have no plans for new music next year

THE Iron Maiden is about to take a break from activities after many years of touring and recording. According to Steve Harrisbassist, current tour The Future Past will be disbanded in December 2024, and after that, the band plans to take some time off. Harris revealed in an interview with the Australian podcast Everblackthat, for 2025, there are no plans for new projects, including the recording of new songs.

In recent years, the band has maintained a rhythm of many activities, including touring Legacy of the Beast and, more recently, The Future Pastwhich tours the world until the end of this year. After the shows scheduled for December 6th and 7th in São Paulo, the band will temporarily stop its activities. Steve Harris highlighted that this pause is due, in part, to the recent focus of Bruce Dickinson in the solo project, The Mandrake Project.

Still, Harris made it clear that even though there are no new songs in the works at the moment, the band could return to the studio.

No no [há música nova sendo feita] at the moment. There’s nothing in the works right now. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be.

The hiatus in 2025 will mark the band’s 50th anniversary, but the bassist has already indicated that there are no concrete plans for celebrations or even retirement.

I’m on tour [tanto com o Iron Maiden, quanto com o seu outro projeto British Lion] for the next four months until Christmas. I’m not really sure what we’ll do after that. I think we’ll probably take a break from Maiden for a while. I don’t have any plans at the moment for anything with British Lion early next year. But if something comes up, I find it hard to turn it down. So, we’ll see.

Brazilian fans will still have the chance to see Iron Maiden live in December this year, with shows in São Paulo, on the tour that focuses on the albums Senjutsu (2021) and Somewhere in Time (1986). Despite the pause, Dickinson stated that he will return to Brazil in 2025, but did not specify dates or reasons.

Iron Maiden is on the special edition of Rolling Stone Brazil dedicated to the band. Lists, curiosities, reports and lots of content for fans of the group can be found in the magazine, on sale here.
