Leigh accuses Cummings-Ramone to unduly exploit the legacy of Ramones “for his own fame and vanity.”
Alan Fischa veteran intellectual property litigator, argued that owning half of the shares of Ramones Productions does not guarantee Beautifulnecessarily, control over its intellectual assets: “Just because she owns half of the business does not mean she has the unrestricted right to use its intellectual property” (via The New York Times).
“The fact that the two shareholders have different views is part of the challenge they have created for themselves by owning 50%,” he added.
Other disputes
Before entering into a relationship with Johnny, Beautiful lived a years-long romance with Joey. After the death of the two artists, the battle continued between the widow and Leighwho questioned her, in 2018, about the use of the trademarks of Ramones at an annual tribute event to Johnny. The brother of Joey also opposed the adoption of the surname Ramone by Beautiful.
In January, shesued Mickey as a result of a biopic about Joey Ramonetitled I Sleep With Joey Ramone. According to the document, Leighwhose real name is Mitchell Hymanis being accused of “secretly developing a biopic based on the Ramones unapproved and unauthorized”, based on “one-sided recitation of the history of Ramones“.

The representatives of Leigh claim that the film produced by Netflix and starring Pete Davidson is based on a memoir written by himself. The streaming platform, in turn, argues that the feature film received support from the estate of Joey Ramone.
“THE Mrs. Ramone opposes the defendants’ attempt to create a film of the Ramones without their involvement – not to be obstinate, but rather based on the defendants’ disregard for property [dos Ramones] and for the conduct and treatment meted out to her,” the lawyers said. “Allowing only the defendants to tell the official story of the Ramones It would be an injustice to the band and its legacy.”
The accusation also points out that Leigh and Dave Freydirector of Ramones Productionsmismanaged the company and withheld payments from it, and were willing to “allow the band’s legacy to deteriorate.”
“It is evident from the defendants’ continued conduct that their primary objective is to torment the Mrs. Ramone until she agrees to sell her interests,” he wrote. “Regrettably, Defendants appear willing to allow the band’s legacy to decline in order to further their own interests.”
