In addition to performing a world tour in a few cities, Linkin Park also announced their first song since the death of Chester Bennington.
With the official return of Linkin Park to the studios and stages, the band went through some changes, in addition to Emily Armstrong on vocals. Drummer and founder of the iconic American rock group, Rob Bourdon left the formation and was replaced by Colin Brittain.
During an interview with Billboard, Mike Shinoda explained the band’s return and the departure of his now former bandmate. “Rob told us at some point, I think it was a few years ago, that he wanted to put some distance between himself and the band,” he said. “And we understood that – it was already apparent. He was starting to be less present, less in touch, and I know the fans noticed too.”
In the relaunch of Hybrid Theory (2000) and the release of Papercutshe didn’t show up for anything. So for me as a friend, that was sad, but at the same time, I want him to do whatever makes him happy and obviously everyone wants the best for him.
Furthermore, Shinoda also commented on the entry of Colin Brittain: “He plays drums in the live show, and drums are his first instrument, but he plays guitar, bass and keyboards, and he produces and mixes. We have a similar way of looking at music, of starting from scratch, and I really enjoyed working with him and bouncing ideas off of him.”
So when Linkin Park started doing things, for whatever we were going to do, it was like, ‘Oh, Colin. We’re doing stuff. You should come.’
