Released on August 29, 1994, “Definitely Maybe” celebrates 30 years with a special edition that drives sales, driven by the band’s return to the stage
Oasis’ debut album, ‘Definitely Maybe’, returned to the top of the UK charts this Friday (8/12), 30 years after its release on August 29, 1994. The re-release, a special anniversary edition of the album, has rekindled the excitement among fans, especially following the announcement of the band’s comeback tour.
According to The Official Charts Company, the album, which topped the charts in 1994, saw sales increase by 408% over the previous week. More than half of sales came from vinyl, cementing the album’s lead on the vinyl album charts.
Other Oasis albums also stand out
In addition to “Definitely Maybe”, Oasis achieved #3 and #4 chart hits with the compilation album “Time Flies… (1994-2009)” and their second album, “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?” (1995), proving the band’s enduring strength in the music industry.
The group last topped the UK charts in 2010, but their recent tour, scheduled for next year, has reignited interest in Britpop classics.
Controversy over tours and tickets
Due to high demand, Oasis have announced two more dates for their comeback tour, which will mark the band’s first live performance in 15 years. However, the ticket price hike, caused by the “dynamic pricing” feature, has drawn criticism from fans who have paid more than double the original price of £148.50 (about US$195).
Due to what are considered unfair prices, Ticketmaster is under investigation by the UK’s trading regulator, accused of violating consumer rights in ticket sales.
