More at ease, the singer presented about six songs from the new album, ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’; the presentation also had the rapper Playboi Carti

It was with mystery that The weekend announced that he was preparing a show that was “unique in the world.” And it was with enthusiasm that the inhabitants of São Paulo received the news that the city chosen for the presentation, broadcast worldwide, would be São Paulo.

The singer returned to the capital of São Paulo this Saturday, the 7th, less than a year later – the last time he performed an urban and dystopian show, with a paulista look. Now he proposed it with a simpler structure – following the aesthetics of his next album -, but still grandiose.

Abel Tesfayethis is the name of the artist, he chose to repeat more or less the same formula of the tour After hours until dawn. The futuristic tone, however, gave way to a “biblical” aesthetic.

Messiah-like and more at ease, the singer has replaced the arm wrestling and mask of his latest shows with a black tunic with gold details. The artist’s sculpture Hajime Sorayama inspired by the movie Metropolis was replaced by a building, on top of which the artist appeared at the beginning of the show. The floating moon gave way to a cross-shaped stage.

The Weeknd made the risky choice to fill the setlist with about six songs from his upcoming album, Hurry up tomorrow. But he managed to balance out the songs that were unknown to the public with the hits that made the fans sing along.

The show started with the new Fade to black, Run away AND Wake me up. With a truly messianic tone and with his impeccable and unmistakable voice, Abel sang, several times: “The crowd shouts my name”. The “prophecy” came true during the entire presentation.

The Weeknd has chosen some special appearances for the show. Rapper invited Playboy Carti singing in a moment that became one of the best of the performance.

The most anticipated and most speculative entry, however, was that of Anita. The singer danced to the original song St. Paul. The moment was visually beautiful, with the Brazilian dressed in red and pyrotechnics invading the MorumBIS stadium, but the participation left much to be desired. Anitta did not sing and used the microphone only to say specific lines.

The hottest sections, however, did not ruin the narrative and theatricality of the show. Abel created apotheotic moments with his hits Save your tears, Less than zero AND Blinding lightssung in sequence.

With the show in Sao Paulo, the singer concludes the trilogy of his latest albums and, apparently, will abandon his stage name and character The Weeknd. He concluded with a drone show that formed the title of the next album, Hurry up tomorrowthe presentation leaves more doubts about what is to come than conclusions. What the artist wants is to leave the desire that “tomorrow is in a hurry”.
