Halsey has released the highly anticipated music video for her new single, Egolast Friday (06), offering a new preview of his next album, The great imitatorThe track is inspired by the sounds of the 90s and was first revealed during a live show at KOKO in London in August.

In the music video of Ego, Halsey explores an internal confrontation, playing two opposite sides of herself. In one scene, the singer appears glamorous, with long hair, elaborate makeup and wearing a black mini dress.

In the other, he appears with short hair, no makeup and wearing a tuxedo, symbolizing a more raw and introspective version. The two versions of the artist face each other, creating a visual narrative that reflects the struggle between his different personalities.

The song, characterized by pop rock sounds, features verses such as: “I think I should try to kill my ego / ‘Cause if I don’t, my ego might kill me”echoing themes of self-discovery and emotional growth. With this track, Halsey continues to explore musical eras and profound themes, in line with the concept of The great imitatorwhich will be released on October 25th.

All About Halsey’s “The Great Impersonator” Album Concept

Halsey revealed intriguing details about his upcoming album, The great imitatorin an announcement accompanied by an introspective trailer that explores several decades and shows some of the new music. This work marks a new chapter in the career of the artist, known for her ability to reinvent herself and address profound themes in her music.

The trailer, released about two months later Halsey confirming her diagnosis of lupus and a rare T-cell disease, begins with the singer reflecting on her health. In a voiceover, she says: “When you get sick like that, you start thinking about how everything could have been different.”

The scenes alternate Halsey Nowadays, clips of her donning retro looks and hairstyles from different eras have surfaced, leading to questions about what her career would be like if she had debuted in decades past, such as the 2000s, ’90s, ’80s, or ’70s.

Halsey one wonders if, in all these alternate timelines, she would still be the same person, facing the same challenges, such as illness and motherhood. The teaser includes excerpts from the single Luckywhich provides an interpolation of the success of Britney Spears with the same name, as well as other new songs, each inspired by the aesthetics and sounds of the aforementioned decades.

The concept of The great imitator seems to revolve around a deep exploration of identity and self-reflection, as evidenced by the final question in the trailer: “If it all ended now, is this the person you’d be proud to leave behind?
