Funk Orquestra and MC Daniel mixed ‘Águas de Março’ and ‘Garota de Ipanema’ with ‘Desenrola, Bate e Joga de Ladin’ and ‘Ai, Preto’
The show that opened the Sunset Stage at Rock in Rio 2024 brought the unveiling of Funky Orchestraa project led by maestro Eder Paolozzi that combines funk with classical music, with the participation of singers Rebecca AND MC Sofia and the funk player MC Danieleone of the highlights of the genre at the moment.
Funk hits like See you there, Shark, I Love You and Absurd Love shook the audience, but the surprise was due to the homage to Tom Jobim and bossa nova: the show ended with a potpourri that brought together Waters of March, in the version with Elis, She is from Rio AND Ipanema Girl – the latter, was Girl from Riofrom Anita – …in funk rhythm. These classics, however, did not excite the audience, the vast majority of whom left for other stages as soon as the first chords were played. She is from Rio.
Those who left Sunset didn’t see what happened next: a selection with Go Novinha, Ah, Ah, Ah, unroll, hit and play Rogue, Oh, blackamong others, which brought together on stage MC Daniel, MC Soffia and Rebecca.
Upon leaving the stage, in an interview with Multi-showMC Daniel said the presentation signifies a “new era” for funk. MC Soffia agrees. “A new movement, a new history. It’s very important to show funk at a rock festival.”
MC Maneirinho performs Baile de Favela on an alternative stage
Shortly before, the first artist to perform at the tenth edition of the Rock in Riostarted on Friday 13th, in the city of Rio, in the west zone of Rio MC Maneirinhofunk singer who performed on the Supernova stage from 3pm.
Electric, he interspersed song excerpts with shouts announcing a “favela dance” (for an audience that paid R$795 for a ticket) and asking people to “raise your hand if you don’t miss your ex.”
Maneirinho took on the role reserved, in the first edition of the festival, in 1985, for Ney Matogrosso, who opened his show (the first of that festival) singing South America and was pelted with eggs by the audience, who were waiting for the heavy metal of Iron Maiden, another attraction that first day.
Four decades later, Maneirinho concluded his fan-filled show by belting out his hit song at the top of his lungs. Stay on all fours for me.
