Jane’s Addiction Cancel Comeback Tour After Singer Attacks Guitarist

Perry Farrell attacked Dave Navarro on stage during a concert in Boston last Friday

Jane’s Addiction have canceled their U.S. tour following an onstage altercation between singer Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro. In a statement signed by Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Eric Avery, the musicians revealed that Farrell’s assault during a show last Friday (9/13) in Boston was the reason for the decision. “We have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue our current tour. Our concern for your health and safety, as well as our own, has left us with no alternative,” they said.

Moment of tension

The incident was caught on video and shows the singer making physical contact with Navarro, who appears confused by the situation. The guitarist was pushed and then punched by the singer, prompting the band’s team to enter the stage to try to restrain him. The Independent newspaper reported that there were signs of conflict at the previous show in Florida, when Navarro allegedly turned up the volume on his guitar to interrupt Farrell’s incoherent speech.

Perry Farrell Defense

Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau, defended the singer on Instagram, explaining that the band’s volume was a source of tension. “Perry’s frustration grew night after night. He felt that the volume on stage was too loud and that his voice was being drowned out by the band. Perry suffers from tinnitus and a sore throat, and when the audience started complaining that they couldn’t hear him, he lost it.”

The musicians had not played together for 23 years.

Jane’s Addiction had been on tour since August. The shows marked the return of the band’s original lineup and were accompanied by the release of a new song, “Imminent Redemption”, the first by the original quartet since the classic album “Ritual de lo Habitual”, the group’s best album, released in 1990. .

To understand the importance of this formation, their farewell in 1991 marked the launch of none other than the Lolapalooza festival, conceived by Perry Farell as an “accompaniment” to the tour in the United States.
