Sean “Diddy” Combs54-year-old rapper and producer, was arrested in New York, United States, on the 16th, accused of illicit activities including sex trafficking, assault and criminal conspiracy. On Tuesday 24th a new rape complaint was filed against the artist. He is being held in custody, awaiting trial.
Who is Diddy?
Diddy is the latest stage name adopted by Sean John Combs54 years old, born in Harlem, New York. Throughout his career, he has also been known as Puffy, Puff Daddy, P. Diddy and Love.
Considered a hip-hop mogul, Diddy is one of the biggest names in the American music industry. He is a rapper, music producer and businessman and has had a major influence on the stardom of artists such as Usher, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey AND The infamous BIG.
Diddy’s social circle is trendy, having been associated with several powerful industry figures over the years, such as Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Ashton Kutcher, Naomi Campbell AND Leonardo DiCaprio. In the criminal indictment, the U.S. government says the rapper hosted alcohol- and drug-fueled parties at luxury hotels that lasted for days. Nicknamed “freak-offs”, the parties, described as “sex marathons”, featured several industry celebrities in the early 2000s.
He used to record these meetings, using the videos as a way to prevent participants from speaking or making accusations against him.
Career
Raised by his mother after his father’s murder in 1972, Combs began his career in the early 1990s as an intern at Uptown Records. He studied economics at Howard University, but ended up dropping out. In 1993 he was fired and founded his own record label, Bad Boy Records. It wasn’t until 1996 that he released his first work as a rapper and achieved success on the music charts.
At the time, his most popular track was I’ll miss youa tribute recorded following the death of The Notorious B.I.G., Biggie, in 1997. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 for eleven weeks and promoted Diddy’s (then Puff Daddy) debut album, No way out, that won the Grammy for best rap album in 1998.
In the following years he began to invest in other businesses as well: a clothing brand, another tequila brand, as well as making several appearances in films and TV shows. As a rapper, he has released four other albums: Forever (1999), The saga continues… (2001), Press Play (2006) e The Love Album: Off the Grid (2023).
Personal life
Diddy has seven children, from four different mothers: Quincy33 years old; Justinof 30; Christian “King”.‘, of 26; Opportunityof 18; the twins D’Lila AND Jessieof 17; AND Love1 year.
Four of them are from the model Kim Porterdied of pneumonia in 2018. Quincy, the woman’s son from a previous relationship, was adopted by the rapper. Christian and the twins are the former couple’s biological children.
Justin is the result of the rapper’s relationship with stylist Misa Hylton; The case, from his relationship with his friend and entrepreneur Sarah Chapman, with whom he did not officially date; and the youngest, Love, by model Dana Tran.
Diddy also dated the actress and singer Jennifer Lopezthe singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and the rapper YungMiami.
