Travis Barker says he fled planes again after the Voepass accident: ‘I was very affected’

Blink-182 drummer survived plane crash in 2008; Recent aircraft crash in São Paulo would have left Barker afraid to fly again

After surviving a plane crash in 2008, Travis Barker spent more than a decade without traveling using any means of transport. It was only in 2021 that he and his wife Kourtney Kardashian flew from Los Angeles to Mexico on the private jet of Kylie Jenner.

Although he stated in a Twitter post in September last year that he associates “traveling and flying with death”, the drummer embarked on a tour with Blink-182 and visited Brazil for the first time in 2024.

Asked in an interview with The Wall Street Journal about the experience of flying to shows in Australia in February this year, barker admitted that the situation has changed:

I was fine for a while. But that plane crash in Brazil made me freak out when I was in Europe. God bless the souls of all these people. I was really affected, like I hadn’t been in a long time, and it caused me to have one of the most real flashback nightmares I’ve had since the accident, and I couldn’t fly for the rest of the tour. I took 15 to 19 hour trips by bus and took ferries. I just needed to fly to Europe and back. But I’m not too well to fly right now and I’m going to use buses for the rest of the year. I have good times and bad times, and right now I’m very triggered.

The musician made reference to the Voepass accident that occurred on August 9th. Flight 2283, on ATR 72-500, left Cascavel, in Paraná, and was destined for Guarulhos, in São Paulo. The aircraft crashed in Vinhedo, São Paulo, and all 62 people on board died.

In 2008, on September 19th, Travis Barker, Charles “Che” Still, Chris Baker and Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein They were going from Columbia to Los Angeles on a private plane, when they experienced an emergency during takeoff. Further investigation revealed that the tires had burst, which led the pilot to abort the flight. The aircraft skidded for a long distance and was engulfed in flames.
