Released in September 2024, ‘Alone’ is the lead single from The Cure’s upcoming studio album, titled Songs of a Lost World
Known as the vocalist and frontman of the British rock band The Cure, Robert Smith explained the group’s newest song, “Alone,” released on September 26, 2024 on music streaming platforms.
It’s worth remembering how the track in question is the first single from the band’s next album, titled Songs of a Lost World. This is the first new studio material in 16 years. In a video published on YouTube, Smith revealed how “Alone” was inspired by a poem.
“I rediscovered a poem by Ernest Dowsonan English poet – his name is Dregs. I have a book and over the years I write down things that I consider [são] interesting,” he said (via NME). “Some are couplets, some are rhymes, some are words…it’s not a diary, a lot of it is nonsense.”
“Occasionally I turn a page and there’s something and I think, ‘Oh, that’s great,’ and I actually transcribed this poem—I don’t know when—and I was struggling to find the right image for it.”Alone‘…this poem, the opening line, I thought, ‘That’s it,'” the singer continued.
It was in the back of my mind… however I was writing it, it wasn’t poetic, and suddenly I discovered this and thought, ‘This is it, this is what’s bothering me,’ because I knew what the song was supposed to be about.
