Band prepares a series of news to celebrate the anniversary
During an interview, the drummer John Densmore announced plans to celebrate 60 years of The Doorswhich include a series of releases (via Jampol). The group, formed in 1965, is preparing limited editions of vinyl albums, remastered shows, an unreleased book and more news, which will be released from November 2024 and throughout 2025. Regarding this, Densmore highlighted the importance of these releases for the band and for the new generations who continue to discover their music:
When we were young, 60 seemed impossible. And here we are, with music more relevant than ever. We want to do something special for both loyal fans and new audiences discovering The Doors’ legacy.
Confirmed releases:
Box set with six studio albums (November 22, 2024)
A limited vinyl collection will be released, containing the band’s six studio albums, recorded between 1967 and 1971, a time when Jim Morrison was still in the group. The edition is part of Rhino’s High Fidelity series and will be limited to 3,000 copies.
Remastered recording of the Detroit live show (November 29, 2024)
A recording of a concert performed on May 8, 1970, at Detroit’s Cobo Arena, will be re-released in a remastered edition. Known as the band’s longest show, with 25 tracks, it will be released on vinyl on Record Store Day Black Friday.
‘Night Divides the Day’ Book (Early 2025)
This 344-page book, published by Genesis Publications, will include new interviews with John Densmore and Robby Krieger, as well as previously unpublished material from Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek. The limited edition will feature 2,000 numbered copies, signed by Densmore and Krieger, and will include an exclusive 7-inch vinyl featuring rare recordings by Hello, I Love You and Moonlight Drive.
Other celebrations planned
are being organized museum exhibitions and art installations to celebrate the band’s legacy. Additionally, Densmore suggested the possibility of a special show at the Hollywood Bowl, where the band performed one of the most iconic shows in 1968.
