Wizard Production makes the singer’s departure official, citing reflections on fan criticism and respect for the group
Singer Seunghan is no longer part of the K-pop group RIIZE. The announcement was made this Sunday (13th) on the official social networks of Wizard Production, the division of SM Entertainment responsible for managing the group, two days after the artist had received confirmation of his reintegration into the group. The company explained that the decision was made after Seunghan expressed his desire to step away from RIIZE to preserve the other members and his fans.
Decision after controversy and short return
Two days ago, RIIZE announced the return of Seunghan, who had been away for about 10 months after photos were leaked in which he appeared smoking and next to a woman, which generated criticism from K’s more conservative audience -pop. In a statement, Wizard Production said the artist’s departure was the result of “careful reflection on each of the opinions and responses sent by fans” following the singer’s attempted return to the group.
“Seunghan has always expressed his desire to leave the group for the sake of the members and fans,” Wizard Production directors said. They explained that the return decision was revised after realizing that instead of satisfaction, Seunghan’s presence was causing “more confusion” among fans.
Repercussions and support for the singer
However, this is not what was seen on social media after Seunghan’s departure was announced. Many fans regretted the decision and expressed support for the singer. On X, formerly Twitter, the hashtag “#SMSupportsBullying” has gained traction among Internet users who accuse SM Entertainment of failing to protect its artists. “I’m sorry, but I don’t support a company that doesn’t prioritize or care about its artists. They acted like they committed a crime,” one fan criticized.
Other netizens took to Reddit to express disappointment with the agency, claiming that Seunghan has been treated with contempt since his debut. βIt’s been in the basement for a year, and I feel like if it was there, I couldn’t be a part of the group without feeling really bitter,β one user commented. βI am disgusted by the way SM handled the situation and did not protect him at any point during this ‘farce’ of a scandal,β said another fan, protesting the agency’s decision.
Uncertain future for Seunghan
Despite the controversy, Wizard Production said it will continue to support Seunghan so he can “showcase his talent and follow his dreams,” although it did not detail the next steps for the artist. Among the fans there is a growing desire for him to find new opportunities. “7 years of training, I hope she can debut elsewhere, perhaps as a soloist”, suggests a follower.
