How Paramore learned to work together despite the bullshit, according to Hayley Williams

After several internal conflicts, the band discovered its own way of operating to avoid new conflicts

Fights are part of the history of every band, especially those formed by young musicians. THE Paramore There was a series of conflicts, including dramatic departures of members, hiatuses and triumphant returns.

The secret to finally achieving balance according to Hayley Williams It’s simple. In the singer’s view, it is enough to accept each person’s differences.

The subject was addressed by the members of Paramore during an interview transcribed by the website Rock Celebrities. The vocalist sees the current lineup, completed by the guitarist, Taylor York and the drummer Zac Farrolike a balance of personalities.

The three of us grew up together and although we are still the same in many ways, we also grow and evolve. But we have different personalities. And we bring them into the band. I don’t know, I think we’re a good match.”

Williams also highlighted the importance of the community around the band and how each of the members contributes in their own way to making Paramore work. She also highlighted how, at this point, personality differences are celebrated even by the public.

Fans make fun of us because they see a photo of us and say: ‘That’s our personality’. It’s me making a face, Taylor with his eyes closed or turned away from the camera, and Zac practically in heaven, ecstatic. I don’t know; It’s cool to be older, healthier, to be able to enjoy that and be present for it, because I wasn’t always that way.”

Paramore’s Chaotic Past

Still in 2010, Paramore suffered a drastic rupture. In 2010, the guitarist Josh Farro He left the group along with his brother, Zac, and detailed on his blog several dissatisfactions regarding the band’s trajectory, the excessive protagonism of Hayley Williams and how their recent material was in conflict with their religious beliefs.

The musician also revealed that Paramore itself did not have a recording contract. Williams had signed to Atlantic as a solo artist, so the rest of the band was essentially contract musicians.

The vocalist gave an interview to MTV News along with remaining members Taylor York and Jeremy Davis on the topic. They confirmed the information offered by Josh Farro, but also stated that, despite the departure of two founding members, the group would continue.

In 2015, Davis left the group and filed lawsuits claiming partial ownership of Paramore, in addition to alleging breach of contract against Williams and York. The parties reached a compensation agreement in May 2017.

Meanwhile, Zac Farro officially returned to the group in February 2017, during the recording of the album After Laughter (2017). Today, the drummer offers his perspective on the group’s trajectory as follows:

Especially in today’s world where people change their phone number every year, it’s amazing to have friends who have been by your side for 20 years. We had our ups and downs, of course. I left the band for several years and then they asked me to come back. I know how special this is and I am grateful every day for our lasting friendship.”

In early 2024, Hayley Williams’ contract with Atlantic Records finally came to an end. The future of Paramore is unknown, but it is expected that if they continue, it will be for the first time as a band on equal footing.
