Ultraje bassist Rigor is recovering, but the damage leaves doubts about perception
Roger Moreira, singer of the band Ultraje a Rigor, commented on the state of health of Rinaldo Oliveira Amaral, Mingau, after the bassist survived a gunshot to the head in 2023. During his appearance on the Tramonta News program, Roger revealed to be I’m not sure Mingau can recognize him when he comes to visit. “I go to see him every now and then and I don’t know if he realizes it’s me. Look, he follows with his gaze, some days he’s happier, other days he’s sad. It’s a bit depressing,” the singer said.
Birthday in hospital and recovery
On Porridge’s birthday, celebrated at the hospital in September, Roger noticed that his colleague seemed happy, even though he wasn’t sure he recognized the people there. “There were many people he knew, he kept a smile on his face, but I don’t know if he recognizes them. [as pessoas]. But at least he found it funny, he had a bit of fun,” he added.
Recovery and miracle of survival
Roger described Mingau’s survival as a “miracle”, recalling that the bassist was considered clinically dead after the shooting and that the lack of oxygen to the brain had worsened the condition. “In addition to the damage caused by the gunshot, he was left without oxygen to his brain for a while, and another doctor said he wasn’t dead and basically resuscitated Mingau,” he said.
Discharge from hospital
Mingau was released from hospital on October 7, more than a year after he was shot in the head in Paraty, Rio de Janeiro. He underwent cranioplasty, a skull reconstruction surgery, in July and continues to recover after a series of surgeries following the accident.
