The singer was sued for failing to register his employee or pay labor costs
Geizon Carlos da Cruz Fernandes, better known as the singer Xamã, was sentenced to pay more than R$20,000 in work debts to a former domestic worker. The legal process was confirmed this Friday (18/10) by Quem magazine.
The action was brought by Elenilda Gomes Estevão, who claimed to have worked for Xamã without a formal contract between June and November 2022. The former employee also claimed to have received only R$1,500 per month from the singer, without due charges levied.
Elenilda also described in the trial that she worked from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday, “without taking a break” and without paying overtime. Without presenting any defense before the courts, Xamã was sentenced in absentia by the labor judge Alessandra Jappone Rocha, who upheld the former domestic worker’s accusations.
In total, Xamã will have to pay R$ 20,010.47, of which R$ 17,977.90 to the former employee, R$ 727.72 to the INSS (National Institute of Social Security), R$ 912.49 to Elenilda’s defense and another R$ 392.36 for the defense costs of the National Treasury, calculated on the value of the sentence (R$ 19,618.11). You can still appeal the decision.
So far the Xamã team has not commented on the matter, but the space remains open for updates.
