Paolo Di’Annoformer singer of Iron Maidenhe died at the age of 66. The information was released by the musician’s family and confirmed by the band this Monday 21st. According to the statement, the musician died at his home in Salisbury, England, but the cause of death was not reported.

Paul Andrews was responsible for the vocals of one of the biggest heavy metal bands in the world, from 1978 to 1981. His vocals are featured on the group’s debut album, “The Iron Maiden” (1980) and later, ‘Killer’ (1981).

On their official profile, the band stated that they were deeply saddened by the news of Paul’s death and that his contribution helped make Iron Maiden what they are today.

“We are all deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Paul Di’Anno this morning. Paul’s contribution to Iron Maiden was immense and helped set us on the path we have been on as a band for almost fifty years.. Her pioneering presence as a singer and vocalist, both on stage and on our first two albums, will be fondly remembered not only by us, but by fans around the world,” he wrote.

In one of the excerpts, Steve Harris, founder of the band and the only member who remained in the group since its creation, mourned its death.

“It’s so sad that he’s gone. I’ve been in touch with him recently as we exchanged messages about West Ham and their ups and downs. At least he kept playing until recently, it was something that kept him going, being out there whenever he could. We will all miss him. Rest in peace, friend,” he wrote.

“We were so grateful to have had the opportunity to meet him a few years ago and spend time with him once again. On behalf of the band, Rod and Andy and the entire Iron Maiden team, we offer our sincerest condolences to Paul, family and close friends. Rest in peace, Paul”, concludes the note.
