Writer and musician have developed mutual admiration and friendship over the years, with fun moments when they meet
It may seem unlikely, but Bruce Springsteen and Stephen King They have a clear mutual admiration. The singer and the writer began their careers with little time difference between them and the second mentioned almost scripted and directed the music video for “Born in the USA”one of the biggest hits of the first.
However, the aforementioned track is not part of the horror story master’s favorite album. During an interview with Rolling Stone USA, King was asked what his favorite job was Springsteen. The writer has followed the musician’s career since the beginning, but his choice was not difficult — and coincided with that of many fans.
Stephen he responded:
My favorite album of his is Nebraska (1982). I knew from the beginning ‘Atlantic City’ that the album was incredible. He really grew as a songwriter. He did things in music that no one else did.”
Nebraska is considered a unique album in the discography of Bruce Springsteen. The artist is known for social criticism accompanied by messages of hope in his songs, but the record in question presents a different energy: deeper vocals and darker melodies, which may explain the writer’s predilection — famous for horror stories — for disk.
King also recalled one of the first shows of bruce which he witnessed, in 1977, in Lewiston, a city in the American state of Maine. “The Boss” performances are known for their energy and dedication, something confirmed by the writer:
There is so much energy, so much generosity in the show. And so much real life in the music.”

Bruce Springsteen and Stephen King encounters

A teenage girl came, her eyes shining. Bruce picked up a pen. But she didn’t even look at him. She said, ‘oh my God, Stephen King!’. Bruce laughed his ass off and I signed his autograph.”
Another meeting between the two took place in 1992, during a concert by Rock Bottom Remaindersa band formed by writers who perform sporadically for charity in Anaheim, California. Stephen was one of the guitarists and remembers being surprised by the entrance of Springsteen on stage when the group performed a cover of “Glory”from Them.
He said:
That was fun. I was so excited to be sharing a microphone with Bruce Springsteen that I forgot the chords to ‘Gloria’ — and there are only three.”
