Key shift for The Weeknd? Or just want to discuss? The video “São Paulo”, which he made with Anitta, clashes with his big belly that has a… mouth.
The release marks a turning point in the career of The Weeknd, who wants to “kill” his alter-ego to take on his real name, Abel Makkonen Tesfaye.
“There’s coming a place and time where I’m getting ready to close the Weeknd chapter. I’ll still make music, maybe like Abel, maybe like The Weeknd. But I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I will. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed this skin and be reborn,” he said in a recent interview with W magazine.
Even the name of the song refers to the change. It may not only refer to the Brazilian city, but also to the Sao Paulo of Christianity. In the Bible the apostle reflects on the resurrection and the transformation of bodies.
Watch the video with commentary by André Forastieri.
