The Cure’s 14th studio album, Songs of a Lost World was released on digital music platforms on November 1, 2024
Vocalist and frontman of the British rock band The Cure, Robert Smith revealed how the wife, Mary Poole Smithhelped set up the tracklist from the next studio album, titled Songs of a Lost Worldreleased last Friday, November 1, 2024.
During an interview with Huw Stephens in BBC Radio 6 Musicthe 65-year-old artist spoke about all of his lover’s help in the band’s music. “I was finishing the dark ones… and [Mary] She said no, no, no, her best albums are the ones that have just a few… upbeat tracks,” he recalled. “She was right. I wanted to finish it all, because I thought it was fair to all the songs, like they were all kids – I don’t want to pick favorites.”

Before performing shows at BBC Radio Theater last Wednesday, 30th, for the launch of Songs of a Lost Worldthe group’s 14th studio album, Smith gave an interview to Jo Whiley in BBC Radio 2 and spoke about various topics.
“I’ve got the only nocturnal sheep in Britain, seriously, I’ve trained them to… I’m trying to train them because apparently you can’t train sheep, but I’m determined,” he said (via NME). “I trained one of my sheep to shake hands, seriously! No, honestly at night, I’ll probably post sometime before the end of the year […] another viral moment for me! I can’t get them to talk, but they listen, they’re great listeners.”
“I live at night. I mean, my reason for being in a band was mainly so I wouldn’t have to get up to work, it really is,” the artist continued. “I thought I’d never be able to handle a boss, and I never thought I’d be able to get anywhere on time in the morning… I couldn’t at school. It was like my mother’s voice coming up the stairs every day: ‘You’re five minutes to the bus!’ One day I won’t have to do this.”
So it’s weird because everyone else gets up, day people, and I go to bed… I hear the Breakfast Show and I watch the sun rise, and then I go to bed. I wasn’t kidding, this is actually how I live. […] This bothers me around January, I start to get very unhappy, oh, if you think I’m unhappy, my God, January! I don’t see daylight for the entire month of January, so sometimes it bothers me… I don’t know, I just like going out at night.
