Netflix releases the first episodes of “Nova Cena”

The cast includes singer Muse Maya, who was disqualified from “Estrela da Casa” before the premiere

New musical reality

Netflix launched this Tuesday (11/12) the first four episodes of “Nova Cena”, the first Brazilian musical reality show in streaming. The contest pits 18 artists in competition to reveal new national rap talent.

Among the contestants, “Nova Cena” featured actress and singer Muse Maya, who was disqualified from the first season of “Estrela da Casa” three days before the premiere. Globo terminated the artist’s participation after discovering that he had already recorded the Netflix reality show, fearing that his presence would be used to advertise the rival attraction.

At the time the broadcaster limited itself to saying that Muse Maya had to abandon the music competition due to “contractual impediments”, without providing further details about the disqualification. She was replaced by Thália from Rio, who came in 8th place. Finally, Netflix never mentioned his casting on Globo.

Who is the Mayan muse?

Joana, known as Musa Maya, is from Maricá, in the hinterland of Rio de Janeiro. At 18 he moved to the capital to study theater and, at the same time, began his musical career. His interest in rap was born through his friend Sol. He uses his personal feelings and experiences as a source of inspiration for his work. His main influences include rap, trap, pop, jazz and R&B. His goal is to be recognized for his talent and the impact of his music.

Competition details

“Nova Cena” is the Brazilian version of the North American format “Rhythm & Flow” (2019) and portrays the artistic evolution of the participants fighting for the R$500,000 prize and participation in the “Sintonia” series. The jury is made up of Djonga, Filipe Ret and sisters Tasha and Tracia.

The competition presents the international version with recordings in three different cities, which represent the origins of the judges and cross the regions that contributed to their career: Viaduto Santa Tereza (BH), Tavares Bastos e Lapa (RJ) and Cidade Tiradentes (SP) , respectively.

The program will also welcome 20 names from the national scene who will have to contribute to the artistic development of the new generation of rappers. They are: Azzy, Bob13, Dallas, Dexter, Ebony, FBC, Iza Sabino, Jottapê, Karol Conká, KL JAY, Laudz, Marcelo D2, Maru2D, MC Luanna, Negra Li, NINA, Sidoka, Vulgo FK, WIU and Zegon.
