First studio album with Emily Armstrong and Colin Brittain features 11 tracks, opening with a vignette

THE LinkinPark started his new studio album in a peculiar way. From Zeroan album released this Friday (15), marks the debut of the vocalist Emily Armstrong and the drummer Colin Brittainin vacancies Chester Bennington and Rob Bourdonrespectively.

The title track of the work is responsible for opening the audition. It is a short 22-second vignette. In the first part, a brief vocal choir is heard, half gospel, half operatic. Afterwards, a voice that appears to be from Emily asks: “From scratch?” Another person, apparently the musician Mike Shinodasays: “Yes”. Then comes the reaction that seems to be Armstrong: “Like, (start) from nothing? Oh, wait a minute, your first…” It is believed that she would complete: “her first band was called Xero (‘zero’ with ‘x’)”.

In fact, in the press release, Shinoda makes a connection between the title of the album (and the track) and the name of his first band, which gave rise to the LinkinPark. He says:

Before Linkin Park, our first band name was Xero. The title of this album (From Zero) refers to both these humble beginnings and the journey we are currently on. Sonically and emotionally, it’s about past, present and future — embracing our signature sound, yet fresh and full of life. It was made with a deep appreciation for our new and old bandmates, our friends, our family and our fans. We are proud of what the LinkinPark has become over the years and excited about the journey ahead.”

An exclusive review of From Zero is available on the website Rolling Stone Brazil. Click here to read in full. An excerpt highlights:

If it is not possible to start ‘from scratch’, you can simply restart. From Zero uses wisely the baggage built by the remnants of the LinkinParkwith emphasis on the creative leader Mike Shinodain search of something that at least honors the legacy of what was built.

It is, above all, an album respectful of this trajectory. Short (32 minutes) and relatively direct, it does not present in-depth experiments or attempts to reinvent the wheel. Practically all previous albums are represented, from the debut Hybrid Theory (2000) to the controversial One More Light.”
