Cláudio Lins used social media to denounce the mistake made by the organization of the award
The son of the singer and songwriter Ivan Lins, Claudio Linsused his social networks this Friday the 15th, to criticize the organization of Latin Grammy 2024 for a mistake committed in the name of his father. “With all due respect to the Grammys, it’s a shame!” he complained.
In the photo, which accompanies the post on Instagram, you can see a clipping of an exhibition that took place at the entrance to the awards ceremony, in Miami, in the United States. Below the singer’s photo is a sign with his name spelled incorrectly: “David Lins.”
“When my father appeared to the general public, at the V International Song Festival, in 1970, the host of the event confused his name and called him Ivan Luís and, soon after, Ivan Lima (some friends still call him Lima today!) Until then he was an unknown artist…”, begins Cláudio.
The actor and composer goes on to explain that now, in 2024, in the year in which the Latin Grammys comes closest to Brazil, with a record number of nominations for Brazilian artists in international categories, “the great Ivan Lins, with more than 50 years into his career, he was seen clumsily changing his name in a display at the entrance to the awards ceremony.”
Cláudio also points out that his father is the first Brazilian to win the Album of the Year category at the Latin Grammy Awards. “And it’s still competing this year in the Latin Jazz Album category,” he recalls.
“It would be like calling Shakira Xitara, or Rúben Blades Blades Runner,” he compares.
The Latin Grammy organization has not yet commented on the case.
On social media the climate is one of indignation. “Shameful! No respect, no memories,” said one follower. “Disrespect for your father and our country,” said another. “Absurd” and “shameful” were the terms that most dominated the comments on Cláudio’s post.
