Peter Sinfield, founding member of King Crimson, dies

Poet and composer had the idea for the name of the band, one of the most important in progressive rock; also collaborated with Céline Dion, Roxy Music and more

The poet and composer died at the age of 80 Peter Sinfield. The artist born in London, England, was famous in particular for his involvement with King Crimsonthe band he co-founded and even named.

The information was confirmed on the iconic progressive rock band’s social media. The cause of death was not revealed. However, it is known that the artist had been suffering from health problems in recent years — he even underwent open heart surgery between the 2000s and 2010s.

Described as the “original roadie, lyricist, lights operator and live sound engineer” of King Crimson, Sinfield began his career in music collaborating with Ian McDonald node Creation. Afterwards, he became involved with the Giles, Giles and Fripptrio of Michael Giles, Peter Giles and Robert Fripp.
