Effort, struggle and tenacity: Marcos Almeida releases “Leve”, a song to keep you going

With a powerful chorus that encourages the audience to sing along, the song reaches music platforms to move even more people

There are songs that are born with the purpose of being performed in an emotional chorus by a large audience. This is undeniably the case of ‘Leve’, a song composed by Marcos Almeida and one of the ten songs from the album ‘Calado’, the new work of the singer from Minas Gerais, whose release is scheduled for the beginning of 2025.

The new single, released this Tuesday (12), has strong lyrics, with an emphasis on low stressed syllables, and a focused relationship with the concrete poetry of brothers Augusto and Haroldo de Campos. The theme speaks of tiredness, struggle and tenacity. On the other hand, “Leve” evolves into a chorus that encourages the audience to sing along, with rhythmic clapping, resulting in an emotional catharsis at the end of the song.

“They are the most well-refined lyrics of any I have ever produced, considering the poetic creation. Ironically, it was also my most distinctive creative process. I was traveling to Rio de Janeiro to record an interview and, then, I started writing without having a melody in his head, simply putting the words together around the message he wanted to convey,” reveals Almeida.

Initially the melody was thought of as a samba and, among other things, it worked very well. However, since ‘Leve’ was intended to dialogue with the musical identity of the ‘Calado’ album, it naturally took on new forms until it reached its unbeatable definitive version, in Indie Rock.

“The melody was close to Bill Withers (North American blues and soul singer), with hints of what Trap did, and also of Repente’s northeastern music. In addition, of course, to being linked to the harmony of folk and rock, which constitute the very environment of the album”, analyzes Marcos.

The final touch arrived as if by magic. “When I took the song to the studio, Wanderson Lopez (an arranger from Minas Gerais working on the album) and I had some difficulties in developing the song, due to providentially wrong technical decisions. So, by pure intuition, we decided to replicate some of the harmony before the chorus. And that was enough to give the music the density needed to attract audience participation,” he enthuses.

The result can already be seen at the shows, with a broad consensus of the public, singing at the top of their lungs and participating in the vocal parts until the great collective result is achieved. “It’s a song that has only now been officially released, but which has been quickly adopted by the public,” celebrates the artist.

The song “Leve” is the third released as a single from the new album. In June this year, Marcos had already brought ‘Basement’ to the world, with a theme about the balance between what needs to be revealed and the untouched depth of this mystery. ‘Search’ was born in September, which proposes a philosophical dialogue on research and the existential void on social networks.

“I classify ‘Calado’ as a mature album, which has a lot of musical quality in terms of arrangement. I also consider the compositions very beautiful, and which dialogue with many others that I have already written. In addition to having the quality of being pop, of being able to bringing people together to sing together,” he sums up.

In addition to the new album, Marcos Almeida has collected more than 50 original songs, as well as other robust numbers: there are over 90 shows in the main theaters of the country, with more than 45 thousand tickets sold. The Minas Gerais artist is also present on Spotify, with over 165 thousand monthly listeners. His YouTube channel already has more than 225 thousand subscribers and his videos, combined, have exceeded the 74 million views mark.

In his latest work, Marcos Almeida has been on the road with the Tour 2024 tour, with re-recordings of classics by Lenine, Dominguinhos, singer Anastácia, the group Los Hermanos and Nelson Cavaquinho, as well as his original compositions, including hits ‘Sê Valente’ and ‘Vem me help’, part of the soundtrack of the soap opera Vai na Fé, on TV Globo. He also gathers international experience, playing on the stages of Germany, Portugal, Holland, Belgium and England.
