The Offspring’s Dexter Holland says AI is ‘here to stay’

In an interview with French radio, Dexter Holland and Noodles were also asked if they would be inclined to use AI in music

Known as the vocalist, guitarist and composer of the American punk rock band The Offspring, Dexter Holland opined about Artificial intelligence (AI), which has been gaining more and more space in art, and explained that he believes this technology is “here to stay.”

During an interview with French radio Oüi FMDexter Holland and bandmate Noodles were asked about their position regarding the AI. “I think it’s here to stay. I understand it’s very confusing and scary. And it gives people anxiety,” he said.

“And the technology of that is improving where you [vai]: ‘Is this person really saying what I think they’re saying or is it just a projection or something that’s not real? And so these things we’re all going to have to resolve, but I think it’s here to stay,” continued the artist.

And I think it’s going to end up being like other types of technology, where people can use it for good or for bad, and we’re going to have to sort that out.

Next, the pair were asked if they could imagine using AI in music. “Oooh. Maybe I don’t need to be there. I could be at home watching TV,” he said. Dexter Holland. Then, Noodles complemented the singer’s speech.

“Well, if we did, we would just use it to change a sound. I mean, we have different guitar sounds, chorus pedals, things like that, that change the sound of things,” he explained. “So I think it would be just because of that. And in that sense, I don’t think it’s a bad thing. When kids are using it to write term papers or bands are using it to try to write their own songs… first of all everything, I think it’s going to fall apart. I don’t think you’re going to do well with it.

I loved what Joe Walshfrom James Gang and Eaglessaid about this. He said he is not worried about the AIwho cannot throw a television out of a hotel window. AI He’s not having sex. Until the AI can do these things, it’s not a problem, yes.
