Robbie Williams defends Oasis after ticket price controversy: ‘Liam didn’t know’

When ticket sales for the Oasis reunion tour began, prices rose dramatically due to dynamic pricing

During the release of the biopic Better Man – The Robbie Williams Storythe singer and composer who was part of musical groups such as Take That and Helping Haiti defended Oasis of the controversy over high ticket prices on the reunion tour.

The iconic English rock band suffered criticism due to the so-called dynamic pricing applied by the ticket sales website Ticketmasterwhich causes ticket prices to rise depending on demand. As demand for the presentations was quite high, ticket prices also became exorbitant.

In response, the company explained how tickets sold are “market priced” and “can increase or decrease at any time based on demand. This is similar to how airline tickets and hotel rooms are sold.”

In an interview with The Face, Williams talked about his relationship with the group, how he spent 1995 “hanging out with the Oasisgoing to shows, snorting cocaine and going to the The Groucho” and the respective tours scheduled for 2025. At a certain point in the conversation, the interviewer Craig McLean mentioned the ticket sales prices for the singer’s next series of shows: a fixed ticket costs £107.50, approximately R$830 at the current price.

“That’s decent, right?” he replied. Robbie Williams that it was soon questioned whether the affordable prices were the result of the repercussion of the tickets from the Oasis or if he wanted to sell a lot of tickets. “Maybe a little of both. I think the whole music industry just learned something.”

By the way, I’ve never sat in a meeting like, ‘How much are we charging for tickets?’ And I don’t believe Oasis did it either. I don’t believe that the Oasis you knew. Liam [Gallagher] I definitely didn’t know that this is how much the tickets will cost. Let’s do this thing called dynamic pricing.’ I only know about dynamic pricing because of Oasis.

Then, the artist spoke about the impact of the negative repercussions on dynamic pricing: “This whole thing even made me say: ‘Damn, I need to be in some kind of meeting.’ Or simply say: ’We won’t let that happen!'”

Finally, Williams commented on how he “f***ing loved” Liam’s response to the ticket controversy: “He just said, ‘F*** you. That’s how much they cost.’ I was like, ’Yeah, well done, man.’ I would never say that – I can’t. But Liam saying this: ’This is why you are you, and that’s brilliant.'”
