Singer received compensation from tabloid that published interview with alleged ‘secret gay lover’
Robbie Williams he recalled rumors about his sexuality in the early 2000s in an interview with The Guardianhe said he was “irritated” by the news given by a tabloid on the subject.
In 2004, the newspaper published an interview with the alleged “secret gay lover” of Williams and suggested that the musician’s heterosexual relationships were intended to disguise “sordid homosexual encounters with strangers”.
Williams he sued the outlet for defamation and won the case, receiving compensation and an apology.
The artist asked the journalist The Guardian: “Are you straight or gay?” Michael Cragthen, he replied that he is gay.
“OK, I’ll ask you this: There’s a newspaper cover read by millions of people where a woman claims you performed oral sex on her next to a canal. As a gay person, would you sue the newspaper?” journalist, who, in turn, said he would not sue the newspaper, but “would feel uncomfortable because it’s not true.”
Williams he continued, “I was sadder. Not at the accusations of being gay, because look, I’ve done everything but suck dicks. Seriously, you’ve never met someone who wanted to be gay as much as I did.”
He also made a football analogy: “I’m a Port Vale fan and it’s like someone saying ‘well, you’re a Liverpool fan’.”
“And me saying ‘no, I’m not, I’m a Port Vale fan’. When someone says you’re a Liverpool fan a hundred times, it’s like ‘I’m not a Liverpool fan, why do people think I am? ” ?!'” he added.
Later in the same interview, the singer returned to the theme: “You want to be an ally, while protecting your authenticity and your life. Plus, if I want to suck dick, I’ll suck it.” Who will stop me? My wife? The facade!”
