The performance held last Friday (13), at Vivo Rio, was the second of a five-date tour by the band across Brazil
THE Dream Theater is in the middle of a tour of Brazil. There are five presentations, three of which have already been held: in Belo Horizonte (last Tuesday, 10th), Rio de Janeiro (on Friday, 13th) and São Paulo (on Sunday, 15th). Two more are coming, in Curitiba and Porto Alegre, next Monday (16) and Tuesday (17), respectively.
The occasion is special: it is the American group’s first visit to the country since returning from Mike Portnoy. The drummer, a founding member, had been away since 2010 and had his return announced in October last year. However, the tour marking the reunion — and also the celebrations of the band’s 40th anniversary — only started a year later, with a visit to Europe preceding the visit to South America.
Before the current tour, Dream Theater came to Brazil another 10 times, the first half with Portnoy and the second with Mike Manginiwhich replaced it. It is the eighth country where the band has performed the most across the planet. In the 13 years of his absence, the founding member traveled here with other projects, such as The Winery Dogs and Sons of Apollo.

Identification is huge. Therefore, a special reaction from the public was to be expected not only to the group, but also to their original drummer. Still, the tribute paid by the audience at Vivo Rio, in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, during the show last Friday (13) was surprising.
As reported by the journalist Vagner Mastropaulo in text to the Igor Miranda websitethe audience sang a chorus for Mike Portnoy between songs “Strange Déjà Vu” and “TheMirror”respectively the third and fourth in the repertoire. As if they were at a football game, the fans shouted:
“Oh, oh-oh-oh! Portnoy is back! Portnoy is back! Hey!”

Still according to the reporter, the audience was excited to the point of singing even lesser-known songs, such as “This is the Life” and “Vacan”and make choirs in an instrumental: “Stream of Consciousness”.
