Below, Latino provides more details on the project’s construction process Relicsremembers special moments in his career and also the roots of the success of The Lovezin Bandit. Watch edited excerpts from the interview.

Relics It is a very special project for you, now that you have completed 30 years of your career. What inspired you to revisit your classics and give them a new twist?

This project is truly special, especially because it celebrates 30 years of travel. The idea of revisiting these classics was born from the desire to bring new experiences, not only with my successes, but with songs that marked the same era. Inserting these hits into medleys and adding songs that were in sync with my career in the ’90s was like building a bridge between the past and the present. It’s an homage to what I’ve experienced, but with a current energy that I think is essential to keeping these songs alive.

By combining your classics with funk, do you feel that the new generation will approach your art?

I think so. This urban, pop sound that I usually call “new funk” connects very well with young audiences. I’m not bringing traditional funk, but rather urban music mixed with pop and electronic elements, and I think this fusion is a great way to show my art to the new generations, in a language closer to them. We keep the essence of my classics, but with an update that makes sense today.

And why combine it with funk? How did choosing this new genre work to revitalize your style?

What I wanted to bring was an urban vibe, and urban music has a lot of energy and authenticity. It’s an evolution, a way of keeping up with trends without losing my identity. ‘New funk’ is this mix of electronic elements with the band, and this makes the music have its own characteristics, different from other sounds out there. This way I can give a new look to the classics without changing my style.

Were there any particular challenges in this project? Was it necessary to be careful to keep the essence of your songs and add the current funk vibe?

For sure. Updating these classics and mixing them with a modern sound, without losing their essence, was an interesting challenge. It’s careful work, to ensure the new feel works without taking away the track’s personality. Each song was carefully thought out, like Só Você, which we left for Valentine’s Day because it had a special touch, since I recorded it with my wife Rabbie. This balance between the new and the traditional is what engaged me most in this process.

How did you choose the tracks that would be part of the project? Was it difficult to leave out any songs?

It was difficult, yes. With so many successes, making this selection is always a challenge. He brought songs that really stood out and made history, like Baby Me Leva, which marked my career early on. I also decided to include a new song, Lovezin Bandido, which has everything to unleash the summer and talks about this love that mixes freedom and intensity, with the participation of Melody. It’s always good to add something new, something that renews the project and brings something new to the audience.

Lovezin Bandido stands out as a new song. Are you sure it can become a hit like your other songs?

I’m very confident, yes. Lovezin Bandido is a song designed for the summer, we will release it in December and I think it has a strong appeal. It talks about this criminal love that recurs a lot in adolescence, and not only that, but about a relationship that many people identify with and that brings the freshness of the new generation, with Melody’s voice. The audience likes this theme and the atmosphere of the music, which is modern and lively. It’s always good to bring an unreleased song as a bonus into a revisitation project, I think it makes the work even more complete.

What made your old hits so present in the public’s memory?

I think the amazing lyrics, catchy choruses and energy of the songs are part of it. My career has been marked by bringing lyrics and rhythms that connect with people, and when there is this connection, the music does not lose its strength over time. I think that’s the secret: to do something authentic, that touches people in a way that they carry with them over the years.
