According to the singer’s defense, the company has not made any settlement proposal. “If it wasn’t about making proposals, why did they ask for a hearing and force the author to appear?” he asked. According to the lawyer, a Sony representative was also present on site.
In total there were four hours of hearing and the British singer did not intervene, despite having the opportunity to participate in the meeting online. The documents were delivered only after the meeting began.
Now both sides are waiting for a music expert to evaluate the alleged plagiarism. The report will be produced by a professor from the National School of Music of the UFRJ. Earlier this week, the Rio de Janeiro court ordered the removal of Adele’s song from all digital music platforms under penalty of a R$50,000 fine for improper use. However, the fine will only be enforced when music streaming platforms are notified of the legal action.
Universal Music then appealed the injunction. The conciliation meeting was hastily scheduled for the last day of the Forum’s activity, but no proposal for an agreement was received from the record company.
