While film — and music — fans turn their eyes to A Complete Strangerbiopic of Bob Dylan which premieres in Brazil in 2025, two other great musicians can have their stories told on the big screen: Syd Barrettfirst leader of the Pink Floydand Cass Elliotsinger of The Mamas & the Papas.

The information was shared by Peter Jaysenowner of the company responsible for ensuring that Dylan’s songs were available in the film.

During participation in the podcast The Town with Matthew Belloni (via Igor Miranda), Jaysen said he is currently working on both projects.

The feature film about Barrett, in fact, would already have a director cast: the documentary filmmaker Wash Westmorelandfamous for the film Forever Alice.

Due to our involvement with Bob Dylan making OneComplete Unknownwe were lucky enough to now be working with Wash Westmoreland, the great writer and director, on a film by Syd Barrett, one of the founders of Pink Floyd,” said Jaysen.

Regarding the work that tells Elliot’s story, he added:

We had several meetings with Mama Cass Elliot’s estate and met with her daughter, Owen. We are close to acquiring the rights to your book, My Mama Cass.”

There are no established release dates yet. The features have not been officially announced.

Who is Syd Barrett

Born in England, Roger Keith Barrett began playing guitar at the age of 15.

He helped found Pink Floyd and was featured on their first singles, as well as their debut album, The Piperat the Gates of Dawn.

After leaving the band, he released two solo albums in the early 1970s, supported by his former colleagues, until he abandoned his musical career.

He died on July 7, 2006, due to pancreatic cancer worsened by diabetes.

Who is Cass Elliot

Cass Elliot was born in 1941 in the United States. In the first years of her career, she participated in several bands, but achieved success with The Mamas & the Papas – with whom she was posthumously introduced to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

With the end of the group in 1968, the artist pursued a solo career. She died at age 32, in 1974, after a heart attack.

A Complete Stranger

The film portrays the journey of a young Bob Dylan (Timothée Chalamet) from Minnesota to New York to meet the singer Woody Guthrie (Scoot McNairy) during an iconic performance, which took place in 1965 at the Newport Folk Festival, when he inserted an electric guitar into his show and drove folk admirers crazy.

In addition to Timothée Chalamet and Scott McNairy, the film — which should focus on Dylan’s meteoric rise in the music world in the early 1960s — also features Elle Fanning as Sylvie RussoDylan’s college girlfriend; Edward Norton like the musician Pete Seeger; and Boyd Holbrook like the singer Johnny Cash.
