Taron Egerton arrived on TV for the lead role of Jimmy on Apple TV + black bird, and there are only two episodes of the intense limited series left. His character’s mission to secure his freedom by extorting a confession from suspected serial killer Larry (Paul Walter Hauser) strikes him as he has no choice but to try to convince Larry that he’s a friend. The relationship between Jimmy and Larry is at the heart of the show, and both actors have made sure their on-screen dynamic is downright terrifying. Speaking with Gossipify, Egerton explained how he and Hauser developed that dynamic.
black bird this is Based on a true story originally told in the book by author James Keene With the devil: a fallen hero, a serial killer and a dangerous market for redemption autobiography. The rocket star (which explained his approach black bird like a TV show instead of a movie ) discussed his and Paul Walter Hauser’s approach to conveying their disturbing dynamic as Jimmy and Larry:
we wanted it sometimes [that] It should seem like two men are having a conversation, and it’s okay to get a little disconcerting, that you can talk in a very mundane way about really horrible things. But as far as how we approached, Paul and I were very excited to work together and I think we were fans of each other’s work. We immediately agreed. He is a guy who is very easy to get along with. He is very hot, very funny. But he’s also incredibly passionate about acting and storytelling, and we got along really well.
You wouldn’t necessarily guess that the actor who plays the creepy Larry is hot and funny in real life, so kudos to Paul Walter Hauser for going out of his way to play the serial killer! His portrayal of Larry could be particularly shocking to his Netflix fans. cobra-kai, where he definitely wasn’t playing a serial killer .
Interestingly, showrunner Dennis Lehane revealed that this happened after Hauser read Larry’s “three creepiest scenes”. that he was convinced that the actor was suitable for the role , and shared that Taron Egerton said he “would have chemistry” with Hauser because “he’s the guy”. Lehane also revealed that the black bird The team wanted Egerton to be Jimmy from the start, saying they needed an actor who could play the charismatic and youthful sides of the character, as well as the dangerous and calculating sides.
So both stars were right about their roles from the start, and viewers can certainly attest to their intensity as a duo at this point in the series, but how did they manage when the story got particularly dark? Egerton explained:
There are definitely some of the darker elements, well, there are a lot of darker elements in the show and these characters, but we knew when to be a little silly with each other and have some fun, break some tension because it is an intense shooting atmosphere. You know, it’s an intense subject.
“Intense theme” may be an understatement, but black bird it doesn’t actually show any of the terrible crimes Larry has committed. Instead, the show focuses on the details of the case, Hauser’s performance, and Egerton’s reactions to Larry as Jimmy to sell the horrors. As actress Sepideh Moafi explained, the program he managed not to “blow up the story” of what really happened keep violence off screen.
The limited series is almost over, but new episodes are released AppleTV + (opens in a new tab) on Fridays, so be sure to keep yours AppleTV + subscription In addition to Taron Egerton, Paul Walter Hauser and Sepideh Moafi, the series features late Ray Liotta Yes little lady ray of sunshineThis is Greg Kinnear.
