MusicMusician who Dave Grohl admits to having copied announces his 1st album in 5 years

Bob Mould, idolized musician from bands like Hüsker Dü and Sugar, will make Here We Go Crazy available on March 7th; first single is available

One of the most influential musicians on the alternative scene has a new album. Bob Moldwhich was notable in the past for having integrated the bands Hüsker Dü in the 1980s and Sugar in the 1990s, confirmed his next album Here We Go Crazy for March 7th.

It will be the first work in 5 years for Mould, who developed a solo career during periods when his groups were not active. There are already 15 albums produced in this way, generally with production signed by him — as is the case with the upcoming material, which also features Jon Wurster on the battery and Jason Narducy at the bottom.

The album’s title track is available as the first single and can be checked out clicking herealong with a video directed by Gus Black. In a statement, Mold stated that the footage was recorded in the Southern California desert, where he has “past a while in recent years”. Regarding the complete work, he comments:

“On the surface, this is a set of straightforward guitar pop songs. I am refining my primary sound and style through simplicity, brevity and clarity. There are a number of contrasting themes. Control and chaos, hypervigilance and helplessness, uncertainty and unconditional love.”

Copied by Dave Grohl

Less attentive fans of alternative music may have read the name of Bob Mold in a specific place: in the credits of Wasting Light (2011), one of the most acclaimed albums in Foo Fighters. It’s his turn to appear with Dave Grohl in music “Dear Rosemary”.

In a 2021 interview with BBC (via Ultimate Guitar), Grohl emphasized the importance of Mold in his formation, first as a music connoisseur and then as a composer. He even admitted to his idol that he had copied him at different times in the past.

“I remember the first time I met Bob. I did so many stage dives in front of him when I was younger, but the first time we were formally introduced, I was nervous because he’s one of my heroes. And I had to say, ‘oh, man, you’re such an inspiration, I’ve been copying you for years’. All he said was, ‘I know…’”

In 2011, at Classic Rock (via Igor Miranda website), the former drummer of Nirvana revealed that he had already made a direct reference to Hüsker Dü in one of Foo Fighters’ most popular songs. He comments:

“I grew up listening BeatlesI love Led Zeppelinin addition to the Bad Brains and all punk rock. But when it comes to guitar and song structure, my biggest songwriting influence is Husker Dü. Bob Mold has inspired a lot of my playing and writing. I even mentioned one of their songs in ‘Times Like These’when I sing ‘I’m a new day rising’. Bob Mold should be in the highest echelon of great American composers. It is as influential as Tom Petty. Thank you for the inspiration.”

Grohl wasn’t the only Nirvana musician to appreciate Mold. The bassist Krist Novoselic he even said, in an old interview with Kerrang!which your band didn’t do “nothing new, as Hüsker Dü already made that sound before”.
