Deep Purple guitarist Steve Morse officially leaves the band

After 28 years with the group, the musician will devote himself exclusively to the treatment of his wife against cancer.

Guitarist Steve Morse is no longer part of Deep Purple. The announcement was made in a long Facebook post by the band this Saturday 23. The musician joined the group about 28 years ago, in 1994, and participated in the recording of eight albums. Recently he has been provisionally replaced by Simon McBride.

“Steve’s personal circumstances made it impossible for him to commit to the band’s schedule throughout 2022 and beyond. A few months ago, Steve openly shared with the band’s fans that his wife Janine is struggling with cancer and, in his same words, ‘I just have to be with her,’ “explained Deep Purple.

Steve joked, “I am passing the keys to the briefcase that holds the secret of how the introduction of Smoke on the water by Richie [Blackmore] it has been registered. I think you should adapt the key in a specific way, because I have never been able to open it. “

The guitarist also revealed that his family “learned to accept aggressive stage 4 cancer and chemotherapy treatment for life” from his wife. According to him, it would not be feasible to participate in long tours while the situation is unstable and “things can change quickly at home”.

“As Janine gets used to her limits, she is able to do a lot of things on her own, so we’ll be looking to play some shows nearby with a friend to hopefully get us both out of the house!” She continued.

Steve Morse was even praised by his bandmates Ian Gillan, Ian Paice, Roger Glover and Don Airey.
