The awards ceremony will be held on February 2 and will include actions to support the victims of recent tragedies
Coordination with local authorities
The 2025 Grammys ceremony was held on February 2 at the Crypto.com Arena, in Los Angeles, despite the fires that have hit the city since last week. The Recording Academy, responsible for the awards ceremony, has guaranteed that the event will take place in close collaboration with the authorities to ensure public safety.
In a statement released this Monday (13), CEO Harvey Mason Jr. and President of the Board of Directors, Tammy Hurt, expressed solidarity with the victims and highlighted the support initiatives. “Our hearts go out to all those affected by the devastating fires in Los Angeles. This city is our home and we deeply mourn the loss of life and destruction caused in recent days,” they said.
Assistance actions
The Recording Academy and MusiCares have launched the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort, with an initial donation of $1 million. The entity reported that, thanks to additional contributions, more than $2 million has already been distributed in emergency aid to victims. “We will remain steadfast in our commitment to providing ongoing care,” Mason Jr. and Hurt reinforced.
New tone for the awards ceremony
The fires, which destroyed thousands of structures and left more than 20 people dead, led the organization to redefine the tone of this year’s ceremony. As well as celebrating the biggest names in music, the awards will seek to raise funds for those affected and honor emergency workers battling the blaze.
“In challenging times, music has the power to heal, comfort and unite like no other. This year’s Grammys will not only honor the artistry and achievements of our music community, but will also serve as a platform to amplify the spirit of resilience that defines the great city of Los Angeles,” the statement emphasizes.
Main candidates and Brazilian presence
Among the protagonists of this edition are Beyoncé, with 11 nominations; Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone, with seven each; as well as Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan, with six nominations.
In the Brazilian representation, Anitta competes for the award for best Latin pop album for “Funk Generation”. Among the nominees there is also Milton Nascimento, competing in the Best Jazz Vocal Album category with an album in collaboration with the American Esperanza Spalding.
The awards ceremony will be broadcast live in Brazil on the pay channel TNT and on the Max platform.
