In an interview with Contigo, country band Rick & Nogueira talk about maturity and detail a collaborative project with Fernando Zor
The duo Rick and Nogueira – the highlight of country music in Minas Gerais – is reaping the benefits of DVD success Rick and Nogueira at 360°published in November last year. Featuring four tracks, the artists’ first EP features special collaborations, including Dream after dream/Sweet mystery, in collaboration with Traia Veia; AND What are you going to do, with Fernando Zormusical partner of Sorocaba. Furthermore, the reinterpretation of Waiter and the unpublished Nobody cares. In an interview with With youthe singers describe their new project in detail and take stock of their career.
The musicians have been together since 2015, but their careers began before their collaboration. Success throughout Brazil came in 2016, with the song HEY. “I see that the repertoire was very good, as we still do today, thank God. Rick & Nogueira never had problems with the repertoire, you know? But I see a lot of evolution. We evolved a lot, even vocally”says Rick. “Because when we started as a duo, we already had 15 years of career with our own projects,” adds Nogueira. “I think we have matured a lot. If we see the 2015 album (…) Wow, even the arrangements have matured, we sing (…)”says Rick.
“Of course. But it’s nice, it’s a job very well done”continues Nogueira. “And it’s nice, you can look back and see what you’ve already achieved, right? Because, sometimes, we demand too much of ourselves, comparing ourselves, right? Wow, this is wrong, you need more and more and continue (… ) But we forget to look back and see how much we have evolved, how much we have achieved”, Rick points out. «And there is an aggravating factor: those were different times then. Today the scenario is different. You see there was Spotify in 2015, it didn’t have the strength it has today. He still had the CDs, so you can understand? (laughs)”comments Nogueira. “We distributed the CDs at exhibitions, but it’s nice to see them right there: the natural evolution, the retrospective,” adds Rick.
The Rick & Nogueira 360° project was carefully followed by the duo themselves. They were involved in every step of the way, from selecting tracks and special appearances to choosing the location and looks for the recording. “In this DVD, which was the 360, we wanted to bring something more with the guitar, something we had already done in three works. The acoustics, this thing about the resena, which was very popular at the time. And then, in this 360, we wanted to bring some guitar, this more rock’n’roll thing, that we do on the show”, says Nogueira.
“The idea of 360 was to create a stage with the musicians around us. It’s beautiful. It’s not a round stage in the center with people around; it’s the musicians, 360 is that format, it’s the band. And it was nice, it was very different. It’s available on YouTube, through digital platforms. The first release was with Traia Véia and Fernando Zor, from Fernando & Sorocaba.” It’s beautiful”concludes country singer Rick.
